Some Hearts Certified for Sales of Six Million Copies!
ACM-Winning Album of the Year Becomes the First Female Country Debut to Hit the Six-Million Milestone Since 1999.
Nashville, TN – She’s a two-time GRAMMY winner, reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, and newly crowned ACM Top Female Vocalist, and the incredible success story of Carrie Underwood reaches still greater heights as her 19 Recordings/Arista Records/Arista Nashville debut album, Some Hearts, is now RIAA-certified Sextuple Platinum for sales of six million copies. One of only two female country debuts ever to reach this milestone, Some Hearts now ranks alongside Leann Rimes’ Blue as the best-selling debut by a country female in RIAA history.
Released November 15, 2005, the disc’s unstoppable sales momentum has powered it to #1 for a remarkable 26 of its 78 chart weeks – holding the #1 position on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart across multiple weeks in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
With a 29% sales jump to more than 56,700 copies sold this past week, Some Hearts reclaims the #1 position on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and surges to #8 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. This sales leap preceded Carrie’s performance and triple win on Tuesday’s 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, where she was awarded Video of the Year (“Before He Cheats”) and two of the night’s top prizes: Top Female Vocalist and Album of the Year, for Some Hearts.
“Wasted,” the fourth #1 country airplay single from Some Hearts (following the success of “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” “Don’t Forget to Remember Me,” and “Before He Cheats”), also becomes a #1 video this week on GAC’s viewer-voted Top 20 Country Countdown.
Underwood’s massive cross-format appeal has also delivered Top 10 success at Hot AC and Mainstream Top 40 with “Before He Cheats,” becoming a Top 5 favorite video on VH1’s VSpot Top 20 Video Countdown as well as the first country video ever to air on MTV’s TRL and the first country video added to MTV since 1999.
With this week’s SoundScan sales numbers, “Before He Cheats” also breaks new ground on the digital frontier, as release-to-date total sales vault to 1,228,511 downloads, ranking “Before He Cheats” as the best-selling digital country song in chart history.
Some Hearts remains the best-selling, single-disc country album by a solo artist (male or female) in the last six years (since Tim McGraw’s Greatest Hits released in November of 2000) and the best-selling, single-disc country album by any artist since the release of the Dixie Chicks’ Home in August 2002.
Fans can be watching for American Idol’s Season Four champion as she returns to the Idol stage for a performance on the show’s May 23 season finale.
Good Luck Carrie!!

“Before He Cheats” Soars into Top 10 of Mainstream Top 40!
Nashville, TN – CMA Female Vocalist of the Year and double GRAMMY winner Carrie Underwood recently wrapped a three-week reign at #1 on the country charts with “Wasted,” and now her previous multi-week country chart-topper, “Before He Cheats,” showcases her massive cross-format appeal as it cracks the Top 10 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 Radio Airplay chart this week at #9*. The last country song to break into the Top 10 on the Mainstream Top 40 Radio Airplay chart was Faith Hill back in 2000 with “Breathe.”
Already a Top 10 at Hot AC, “Before He Cheats” notched a whopping five weeks as country’s #1 single in late ’06, scoring a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Country Song and earning multiple trophies at the 2007 CMT Music Awards. Now in rotation at MTV, the video for “Before He Cheats” was a recent “First Look” on TRL and became the first country video ever to air on the show and the first country video added to MTV since Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” in 1999. It’s also red hot at VH1, where it’s the #4 most-played video and #4 on the viewer-voted VSpot Top 20 Video Countdown.
“Before He Cheats” is from Carrie’s Arista Records/19 Recordings breakthrough debut album, Some Hearts, now certified Quintuple Platinum. Released in November of 2005, the disc’s incredible sales momentum has propelled it to #1 for a remarkable 23 of its 76 chart weeks – holding the #1 position on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart across multiple weeks in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and reclaiming the top spot again on the current chart. Billboard’s Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year in 2006, the disc’s singles have amassed 14 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. A GRAMMY winner for Female Country Vocal Performance as well as Best New Artist, Underwood has received honors from the American Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association, and more.
Carrie Makes Chart History!
Carrie’s Version of “I’ll Stand by You” Debuts at #6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 – a First for an iTunes Exclusive
Nashville, TN – Two-time GRAMMY winner and reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Carrie Underwood began her career as American Idol’s Season Four winner, and Carrie’s involvement with Idol is making headlines once again as her recording of the Pretenders’ classic, “I’ll Stand by You,” becomes the first iTunes exclusive track to debut in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Entering the chart at #6 in the Billboard issue dated May 12, “I’ll Stand by You” was recorded by Carrie to accompany footage of her two-day trip to Africa this past April for American Idol’s “Idol Gives Back” charity special. Now available exclusively through the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com ) as a fundraiser downloadable as both a video and audio track, “I’ll Stand by You” becomes one of just six digital-only songs ever to debut in the Hot 100 Top 10 and the only track to do so without having been serviced to radio for airplay.
Based on SoundScan sales, the audio track of “I’ll Stand by You” will debut at #2 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart with downloads of 124,496 copies, based on sales from the night of the April 25 Idol episode through this past weekend.
The debut marks not only a remarkable chart feat for Carrie and iTunes, but also a big win for the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF), which has partnered with Idol to raise awareness and funds for relief organizations assisting children and young people in extreme poverty in America and Africa.
American Idol Creator and Head of 19 Entertainment, Simon Fuller, enthused, “This is a big moment. The potency of Carrie’s performance on ‘Idol Gives Back’ last week was so strong that it’s set a new milestone for iTunes and is attracting people to music downloads for the first time. More than that, she is pulling in music fans from all over the world. Carrie is a phenomenal talent, a truly gifted singer, and a generous and kind-hearted spirit, so I am delighted to see the success of what her talent is making possible to benefit children in need.”
iTunes is donating net proceeds from the sale of “Idol Gives Back” content to the CPEF. For more information, visit http://www.americanidol.com/idolgivesback/. For all visitors to iTunes from the American Idol site through May 23, an additional percentage of their total iTunes purchases will also benefit the CPEF.
